Do not treat Aadhaar like a casual upload
Aadhaar is widely used in KYC flows, but that does not mean it should be shared casually over chat, social media, or random third-party links.
If a lender or platform requests Aadhaar, check the legitimacy of the platform first and avoid sending sensitive files through informal channels.
- Do not post Aadhaar numbers publicly.
- Avoid sending Aadhaar scans over unsecured messaging threads unless necessary.
- Use official UIDAI channels when you need to download Aadhaar documents.
Masked Aadhaar and offline verification
UIDAI provides masked Aadhaar, where the first eight digits are hidden and only the last four remain visible. This is useful when full number exposure is unnecessary.
UIDAI also supports offline verification features such as digitally signed QR-based identity checks in compatible flows.
- Prefer masked Aadhaar when the workflow allows it.
- Use MyAadhaar or other official UIDAI channels for document download.
- Be careful with local file copies stored on shared devices.
